Overview 

NEI Sistema de Lectura provides a structured, step-by-step path for students to master reading in Spanish. Built around the 21 syllable patterns of the Spanish language, the program ensures students build fluency and comprehension gradually. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or student, this section explains how our program helps students go from recognizing letters to reading full stories with confidence.

Step 1: Building a Foundation with Syllables  

The program starts by teaching students how to recognize and work with the basic building blocks of Spanish—syllables. Students learn simple syllable patterns like consonant-vowel (CV) and vowel-consonant (VC), helping them to break down words and understand how the Spanish language is constructed.

Step 2: Progressing Through the 21 Phases  

Students progress through 21 distinct phases, each focusing on a new syllable pattern. From the simple to the complex, these phases guide students step-by-step, ensuring mastery before moving on to the next phase. Each phase includes lessons, practice activities, and interactive tools to reinforce learning. 

- Early Phases (CV, VC): Students start by mastering the simplest syllable combinations.

- Intermediate Phases: As students gain confidence, they are introduced to more complex patterns such as consonant clusters and vowel combinations (e.g., diphthongs).

- Advanced Phases: In the final stages, students work with complex syllable structures, including triphthongs, helping them tackle longer words and more advanced texts.

Step 3: Using Engaging Teaching Tools  

NEI Sistema de Lectura uses a variety of teaching tools that make learning fun and interactive. 

These tools include:

• Se Trata De... Books: Fun, alliterative stories that focus on each letter’s sound.
• Key Words: Key words for each letter, helping students connect sounds and letters.
• Training Words: Vocabulary-building activities that strengthen phonemic awareness.
• Special Letters: Learn unique letters and their sounds with fun, interactive activities.
• Letter Songs: Catchy songs that reinforce letter sounds through music.
• Syllables in Rhymes: Rhyming syllables that improve fluency with playful patterns.
• Games: Interactive games that make learning syllables and reading skills fun.
• Activities & Handouts: Printable materials to practice reading and writing at home or in class.
• Practice Words: Hands-on practice with words to reinforce reading and writing.
• Phrases to Read: Short phrases to build reading fluency and confidence.
• Sentences to Read: Practice full sentences to gain mastery in reading.

Step 4: Continuous Assessment and Progress Monitoring  

Our program includes built-in assessments to track students' progress. Using IDEL guidelines, teachers and parents can monitor fluency, comprehension, and overall reading growth. The progress tracking ensures that students are always moving forward at the right pace for them.
